ALGAE | SPIRULINA
Spirulina is a microscopic blue-green algae species that is considered the most ideal food for humanity according to the United Nations report and has been owned by international organizations such as the World Food and Food Organization, World Health Organization, NASA and UNESCO for years. Everyone recommended its consumption. The United Nations brought spirulina cultivation to the agenda as a solution to eliminate food poverty and human hunger and established an institute called IMSAM for the same purpose. NASA has introduced spirulina as the only food that can take humans to Mars and be used for long-term space travel.
In addition to being rich in omega-3 fatty acids and protein, Spirulina contains 8 essential amino acids that the body cannot synthesize naturally. Here is a list of the different amino acids and how the body uses them:
  • Isoleucine – Necessary for optimal growth
  • Leucine - stimulates brain function
  • Lysine – required for the production of antibodies, enzymes and hormones.
  • Methionine – has antioxidant properties
  • Phenylalanine – Necessary for thyroid function
  • Threonine - improves bowel function and digestion
  • Tryptophan regulates serotonin
  • Valine - increases mental and physical strength
An undesirable byproduct of many animal protein sources is cholesterol. Doctors recommend that healthy adults consume less than 300 mg or 200 mg of animal protein per day if they have diabetes or heart disease. Consider this, 10 grams of dried spirulina (about a large spoonful) contains 5.75 grams of protein and 1.3 milligrams of cholesterol, compared to an equivalent amount of egg protein, which contains 300 milligrams of cholesterol.
Here is a short alphabetical list of vitamins in Spirulina:
A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B8, B9, C, D, E and K
B-carotene (beta-carotene) is best known for the red-orange pigment found in carrots.
And did you know that the United States National Cancer Institute recommends consuming 6 mg of beta-carotene per day to reduce the risk of cancer? You'll get 4 grams, half a tablespoon of dry spirulina, 6 milligrams, or the recommended daily amount of beta-carotene.
